Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 31, 2026 · Operated by GetGigz

What changed on October 31, 2026: we opened GetGigz accounts in beta. Sections marked Updated now cover accounts and passwords, veteran profiles and photos, messages between users, reviews, reports, and the cookies that keep you logged in.

Short version: we collect what we need to run the waitlist and GetGigz beta accounts, we show your profile only the way you choose, we use cookies only to keep you logged in and protect forms (no ad trackers or analytics), and we never sell your data.

1. Who we are

GetGigz ("we," "us") is a veteran-founded Texas company. The legal operator of this website (getgigz.com and any other GetGigz website that links to this policy) is GetGigz. You can reach us by email at support@getgigz.com.

2. What we collect Updated

When you join the waitlist, we store:

  • your name and email address
  • whether you're a veteran or a client (homeowner or property manager)
  • the metro area you chose
  • your MOS, rating or AFSC, if you choose to give it
  • the date and time you signed up or updated your details
  • your browser's "user-agent" (a short text string that identifies the browser and device type, such as "Chrome on iPhone"), which helps us spot spam

When you create an account (beta), we store your name, email address, account type (veteran or client), area, a scrambled one-way hash of your password (never the password itself), whether you've confirmed your email, and when you created the account and last logged in. For each login session we store a scrambled session key, its expiry and your browser's user-agent.

If you create a veteran profile, we store what you enter: display name, headline, branch, MOS/rating/AFSC, years of service, skills, gigs offered, service area, bio, self-reported licenses and certifications, availability, your visibility setting, and a profile photo if you upload one. When you upload a photo, we crop and resize it and remove its hidden metadata (such as camera details and GPS location) before saving it.

Messages. When you message another user, we store the message, who sent it, who it's for, and when it was sent and read.

Gig posts (clients). When you post a gig, we store its title, trade, description, area and optional ZIP code or neighborhood, budget, timing, photos (with hidden metadata removed, as above), its status and dates. When a veteran expresses interest or you invite one, we store who, when, any note, and the conversation it started. For matching emails we store which gigs we've told each veteran about and when we last emailed them.

Reviews, reports and blocks. When a client reviews a veteran, we store the star rating, the written review, who wrote it and when. When you report a profile, review or message, or block someone, we store that too.

When you use the MOS to Trades tool, you may enter a military code, branch, a description of your military job, years of service and a metro. We use this to show your results. We do not save it to our database or connect it to your waitlist signup. (If you use "Prefill from my MOS" on your profile, only what you choose to save becomes part of your profile.)

Technical information. Like any website, our servers see your IP address. We use it only in temporary memory to limit how many requests, logins and signups one connection can make (to stop abuse). We don't store it in our database. Our hosting provider, Render, keeps standard server logs, which can include your IP address, the time and the page address you visited. If you open a shared results link (such as one ending in ?mos=12W), that code is part of the page address and may appear in those logs.

3. Cookies, and what we don't collect Updated

We use only essential cookies: a login cookie (gg_session, up to 30 days, removed when you log out), a security cookie that protects forms against forgery (gg_csrf), and, for GetGigz staff only, an admin cookie. They're marked HttpOnly and, on our live site, Secure. We don't use cookies for advertising or analytics.

  • No analytics tools, advertising pixels or tracking scripts.
  • No payment information.
  • No DD-214, ID or background-check information. (If we add veteran verification later, we'll update this policy first and explain how it works.)

4. How we use your information Updated

  • To run your account: logging you in, confirming your email, resetting your password and keeping your account secure.
  • To show your veteran profile, photo and reviews to others, as described in section 5, and to let users find, message and review each other.
  • To send service emails: email confirmation, password resets and "you have a new message" notices (these don't include the message itself), plus gig notices: telling a client when a veteran is interested in or invited to their gig, and telling a veteran when they're invited.
  • To match gigs with veterans: we automatically compare a gig's area, trade and words with veteran profiles (gigs offered, skills, area, availability, profile details and reviews) to suggest veterans to the client and gigs to the veteran. If you're a veteran with gig emails on, we may email you about new matching gigs in your area, at most about once an hour. Gig emails never include anyone's contact details, and you can turn them off from your account or with the link in any gig email. No decision with legal or similarly significant effects is made automatically; clients choose whom to contact.
  • To email you about GetGigz launching in your area and related updates, if you joined the waitlist.
  • To plan which metro areas and trades to launch first, using counts and summaries.
  • To keep GetGigz safe: preventing spam, fraud and abuse, reviewing reports, and enforcing our Terms of Use. GetGigz staff may read messages, reviews or profiles that are reported to us, or when needed to investigate abuse or comply with the law.

We won't send you marketing on behalf of other companies.

5. What other people can see Updated

  • Veteran profiles are public by default: anyone with the link can see your display name, photo, headline, branch, MOS, years of service, skills, gigs, area, bio, self-reported licenses, availability, and your reviews and average rating, and your profile can appear in Find veterans. Search engines may index public profiles. You can switch your profile to signed-in members only at any time.
  • Your account name and email address are not shown on your profile. People you message, and people whose profiles you review, see your first name and last initial.
  • Gigs are visible only to signed-in GetGigz members and aren't indexed by search engines. Members see the gig details, area and ZIP or neighborhood you entered, and your first name and last initial. When you post a gig, the veterans it matches (shown with their profile, area, availability and rating) are listed for you.
  • Reviews you write are shown on that veteran's profile with your first name and last initial.
  • Messages are visible only to you, the other person, and GetGigz staff as described in section 4.

Please don't put sensitive personal details (like your home address, Social Security number or financial information) in your profile, reviews or messages.

6. AI features

The MOS to Trades tool can optionally use an AI service (OpenAI or Anthropic) to read free-text job descriptions and write a suggested profile blurb. This feature is currently turned off, so all results come from our own dataset. If we turn it on, the text you enter in the tool (your code, branch, description, years and metro) will be sent to that provider to generate your result. Your waitlist information, account, profile and messages are never sent. Those providers handle the data under their own policies and business terms. Please don't put sensitive personal details in the description box.

7. Who we share it with Updated

We never sell or rent your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. Apart from what you choose to show other users (section 5), we share it only:

  • with service providers that help us run the site: Render (hosting and storage), Resend (which delivers our service emails, such as confirmation, password-reset and new-message notices), Microsoft 365 (our support mailbox, which receives replies), and, if AI features are on, the AI provider described above
  • if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or GetGigz
  • with a successor company if GetGigz is merged or sold, which would have to keep following this policy

8. Where your data is stored and how we protect it Updated

Waitlist, account, profile, message and review information, and profile photos, are stored on a private, persistent disk at our hosting provider, Render, in the United States (Oregon). The site uses HTTPS encryption. Passwords are stored only as salted Argon2 hashes, login sessions expire, logins are rate-limited, and forms are protected against cross-site forgery. Admin tools require a secret administrator key, and only GetGigz staff have access. Profile photos are served from hard-to-guess addresses; a photo on a members-only profile could still be seen by someone who already has its exact address. No system is perfectly secure, but we limit what we collect so there's less at risk.

9. How long we keep it Updated

We keep waitlist information until you ask us to delete it, or for 12 months after our last contact with you, whichever comes first, unless you've joined GetGigz as a user. We keep account, profile, message and review information while your account exists. When you delete your account (Account → Delete account), we immediately delete your account, profile, photo, login sessions, your conversations and their messages (for both people in them), reviews you wrote and reviews about you, your gigs and their photos, interest and invitations linked to you, and your blocks. Reports you made stay, without your name, so we can finish reviewing them. Rate-limit data in memory is cleared within minutes to hours. Render's server logs and backups are kept for Render's standard retention period.

10. Your choices: unsubscribe, update or delete Updated

  • Account and profile: edit your details, profile, photo and visibility any time from your account. You can delete your account yourself from the Account page.
  • Gig emails (veterans): turn them off under Account → Gig emails, or use the link at the bottom of any gig email.
  • Unsubscribe: use the unsubscribe link in any marketing email we send, or email support@getgigz.com with "Unsubscribe" in the subject. Account service emails (like password resets) stop when you delete your account.
  • Waitlist: join the waitlist again with the same email address and your details will be updated.
  • See or delete your data: email support@getgigz.com from the address you signed up with, with "Delete my data" or "Send me my data" in the subject. We'll respond within 30 days.

Depending on where you live, including Texas, you may have additional privacy rights under state law. Contact us to use them, and we won't treat you differently for doing so.

11. Children

GetGigz is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account. The site isn't directed at anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, email support@getgigz.com and we'll delete it.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here, mark what changed and update the effective date. If the change is significant, for example new uses of your email, we'll tell waitlist members and account holders by email before it takes effect.
